This week: Cloudflare’s AI bot block is switching off Googlebot, Google to show you which searches send people to your TikTok, Instagram, X and YouTube posts and more
Happy Friday!
Here's what you need to know this week across organic and paid that matters for your ecom store:
01 · Cloudflare’s AI bot block is about to switch off Googlebot, and the deadline is 15 September
What it means for you: if your store sits behind Cloudflare and anyone has ever ticked "block AI training", from 15 September that same setting blocks Googlebot and Bingbot too, because Cloudflare now classes them as mixed search-and-training crawlers. Get dev or your agency into the bot settings before then and opt out of the new defaults.
02 · Google will now show you which searches send people to your TikTok, Instagram, X and YouTube posts
What it means for you: your social content has been earning search visibility for years with no way to measure it, but platform properties close that gap, so organic and social finally sit on the same query data instead of two disconnected dashboards. Verify all four accounts this week, then look for query themes pulling traffic to your social posts but not your product pages, as that gap should feed your content plan!
03 · Google now explicitly bans undisclosed incentivised reviews from your review markup
What it means for you: if you run gifting, seeding or review-for-discount programmes, which most fashion and beauty brands do, those reviews only stay eligible in your structured data if the incentive is clearly and prominently disclosed on the page. Audit your review widget's disclosure this month, because star ratings are one of the last visual differentiators left in a shrinking SERP and losing them will impact CTR and ultimately your revenue.
Which of these three do you need to action? Hit reply and tell us, and we’re happy to offer any advice!
